A Peninsula of Wonder Michigan is full of heartbreak, hard luck, rough people who can be incredibly self-centered, and monuments to some of the industrial age's greatest follies. Still, I come back, again and again to this place where expectations are low and still rarely met. Michigan is like a lover who just lays there and takes it, but when it gives love it does not hold back and all you can do is hold on because it will be the best ride you ever had. It's easy to get frustrated with Michigan, and it's easy to want to leave it behind and never come back; but it is a lover, and you do come back, or at least I do. And here I am. Waiting for something, but I don't know what.
